We believe the purpose and intent of the music curriculum is two-fold; our primary intent, is to provide students with a first-class music education, (and) to enable them to fulfil their potential and become the best musician/student they can. We believe in providing students with the knowledge and understanding of music in a variety of contexts, to present opportunities to develop and establish outstanding listening, reading and writing skills in music, as well as express ideas through other musical disciplines, including performance (playing and singing) and composition.

Our second intent is to give students access to the tools they will need to become effective human beings in the world.

We offer opportunities:

• to develop responsibility, resilience and determination

• to demonstrate initiative and self-discipline

• to express critical thought in an articulate manner with reason, clarity and logic.

We aim to do this through the development of a commitment-based culture. Our curriculum reflects the school values as indicated in the Weald Behaviour policy, the Weald Curriculum and inclusion policies including pupil premium.
